So, I mentioned that whole DIY MFA column thing, right? Whelp, here’s the first of them, and yeah, it’s completely different from anything I’ve been doing. Like, fish and bicycles different. Essays were never my thing in school, but what the heck. When I was offered up the opportunity, I figured I’d stretch those writerly muscles, since my physical ones are only taxed by raising up my coffee cup of late.
That’s not to say I didn’t have my reservations. Writing on someone else’s platform is a huge deal, and in case you’ve been living under a rock, I’m not always the most tactful person on the planet. But surprisingly, after I submitted the first article in a series of three, they told me straight-up: DO NOT CHANGE YOUR VOICE.
Rodger dodger. That I can totally jam with, and my enthusiasm for the project bumped up, big time.
Anyways, the article pretty much does what it says on the tin. Cliifsnotes: it’s my take on why writing / creative arts are just as important as everything else we cram into our lives. I get it, you’re busy, and so am I, but our creative endeavors are just as important as everything else we’ve got going on. Still not convinced? Hop on over to DIY MFA and take a gander, then shoot me an email and let me know if I’ve changed your mind!
